November 6, 2013: "In cooperation with the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Iron County E911 Emergency Service Board, the Vulcan Lookout Tower will have a new mission. The tower will serve as a receiving site for emergency radio communications between the southern Iron County emergency responders and the Iron County E911 Communications Dispatch Center in Ironton." DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1963 (VBM) THE STATION IS THE CENTER OF THE BASE OF THE LOOKOUT TOWER LOCATED ABOUT 4 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF ANNAPOLIS, 4 MILES WEST OF VULCAN IN THE NORTHEAST 1/4 OF SECTION 4, T 30 N, R 3 E. AND ON STATE PROPERTY. IT IS A FOUR LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE WITH AN OBSERVATION ROOM AT THE TOP. THE OVERALL HEIGHT IS ABOUT 70 FEET.
TO REACH FROM THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 49 AND COUNTY ROAD K IN ANNAPOLIS GO SOUTHWEST ON HIGHWAY 49 FOR 1.4 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT (COUNTY ROAD C). CONTINUE SOUTHWEST ON HIGHWAY 49 FOR 3.45 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT (COUNTY ROAD BB). TURN RIGHT AND GO WEST ON COUNTY ROAD BB FOR 3.65 MILES TO A SIDE ROAD LEFT. CONTINUE WEST ON ROAD BB FOR 0.1 MILE TO A SIDE ROAD RIGHT. TURN RIGHT AND GO NORTHEAST AND NORTH FOR 1.2 MILES TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER ON THE LEFT.
