Wisconsin - Chippewa County - __-__-3
October 11, 1931: "The foundation for a 100-foot steel observation tower on Flambeau mountain has been laid. The tower is being built as part of the reforestation program of the Wisconsin conservation commission.
The lookout will have a six foot steel house at the top and will be kept on duty night and day during the dry weather. The person in charge will be furnished with powerful glasses that will enable him to observe the district for miles. A telephone line connected with the Holcombe line will be installed so that aid may be called immediate when a fire is sighted.
The Flambeau mountain is at the junction of the Chippewa and Flambeau rivers. The lookout will cover the entire north end of Chippewa county, which is in the fire zone." (Eau Clare Leader)

May 10, 1932: "The tower man installed on Flambeau mountain in the newly erected lookout tower is on the job it appears, for during the past week he has signaled for help for fires that were starting on county trunk M near Foster lake and the timely appearance of fire wardens and fire fighters has checked what would have undoubtedly become a disastrous forest fire. Another blaze lower down the valley started this week also but the promptness of the lookout man arrested the fire before much damage was done." (Eau Claire Leader)

The Conservation Commission is moving the tower farther north to a higher point on the mountain where a better view of that portion of Mud Brook Valley, lying west of the mountain can be had Ranger Ringstead of Ladysmith, has the work in charge. He has a crew of men who will also make some fire lanes over the mountain." (Chippewa Herald-Telegram)
April 20, 1936: "Flambeau Mountain fire tower, town of Birch Creek, is now in its new location. The new position of the tower gives a better view of the Mud Brook Valley country, making it easier to spot trouble. The tower was ready on its new site for the opening of the fire permit season which started April 14.
Conservation Warden Ringstead of Ladysmith supervised the moving and the crew worked rapidly to have it ready for the opening of the season.
The conservation commission desires to make 1936 season the equal or better than 1935. No marsh or brush fires will be allowed, only the burning of brush piles. Co-operation of citizens in this work is gaining each year." (Chippewa Herald-Telegram)

According to the report, Ms. Eckert was climbing the tower, looked down, and lost her grip." (Chippewa Herald-Telegram)
