May 3, 1962: "A Texas Forest Service fire lookout tower is being erected in Hardin County near Grayburg, Archie T. Nash, Fire supervisor for the Texas Forest Service announced today.
This 122 foot tower is being built by the O. C. Braly, Construction Company of Overton, Texas, and will be an all metal structure when completed.
'This additional fire lookout tower will aid greatly to forest fire detection in Southwest Hardin, North Jefferson and East Liberty Counties,' Nash reported.
With the addition of this tower, District No. 4 comprised of Tyler, Polk, Hardin and part of Jefferson County will have a total of 15 lookout towers distributed over this District. From one of these towers on a normal day a person may look over approximately 150,000 acres of East Texas timberland." (The Silsbee Bee)
