October 6, 1972: "Structural work nears completion on a new fire tower just south of Gutherie on Callaway County Route J. The 120-foot tower was dismantled near St. Charles and trucked to its new location. It replaces the rotting wooden 60-foot tower at Reform. Both are in the Conservation Commission's Daniel Boone Forest Fire Protection District." (Daily Capital News]

August 31, 1974: "An 18-year-old Fulton youth has entered a plea of guilty in Callaway County Magistrate Court to a charge of arson of state property in connection with a July 1 incident in which the Missouri Conservation Department's fire tower near Gutherie was set on fire.
Kenneth N. Logan is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 16. Two juveniles arrested in connection with the incident are being handled through juvenile court. The sentence for the felony is two to 10 years in the state prison, according to Gene Hamilton, Callaway County prosecuting attorney.
Hamilton said the youths apparently broke into the fire tower and decided to set it on fire as a prank." (Daily Capital News)
