September 19, 1929: "A fully equipped observation steel tower is to be completed in a day ot two on the top of Lone Hill in the Meramec State Park. It is across the river from Sullivan, on what was the Pickles' tract of land, and about one-half mile from the residence of T.B. Dill, the game preserve keeper.
The tower was authorized by the State Game and Fish Department. It is believed that this tower will be the means of cutting down the fire loses to a minimum, it is 81 feet high." (The Sullivan News)

March 5, 1931: "On the highest point of this mountain is the observation tower which is 11 stories high. One can see a distance of 18 miles. This tower is built of galvanized steel, 18 feet at the base and a 7-foot room on top, equipped with a telephone. This tower is used for fire protection." (The Sullivan News)
