Not a fire lookout in the true sense, but a lookout no less, and is included here for the same reason a number of other Wildlife towers have been included in Oregon, California and Nebraska. And I am sure more will be located in other parts of the country.
In a letter from the 'Friends of Maxwell' received in January 2010: "The tower built May 22, 1956 is 25 feet tall and is located on the highest point of the refuge. You can see for miles around the open prairie. Maxwell is home to 200 bison and 80 Rocky Mountain elk."
