August 22, 1936: "A 100-foot tower to be used as a fire lookout station for the forestry service was under construction two miles north of here today. From the tower an observer can see 13 miles in any direction. Wild life is plentiful in the region, which is valuable as timber land." (Freeport Journal-Standard)
