July 15, 1952: "Constructed at a cost of about $3,500 the new Conservation Department fire tower is located in the Town of Seymour about eight miles east of here next to the town shale pit. Fire spotters will man the tower when fire season approaches." (The Daily Telegram)
August 15, 1952: "Rangers come calling next week on residents of an Eau Claire County area recently added to fire protection district number 10.
Leigh Hilliker, district forest ranger, Black River Falls, points out that all fires in the new zone will be spotted from the newly erected tower at the Town of Seymour shale pit. Vernon Jacobson is the towerman at that spotting point. Roy Sheets will furnish added protection in the Hy. 27 are from the Wilson tower." (The Daily Telegram)
March 29, 1958: "Vandals broke into the 100-foot fire tower in the Town of Seymour early this week and wrecked the place. The lock and hasp on the trap door entrance were broken off.
The vandals broke 12 windows, smashed the fire-spotting protractor, a wall map and smeared green paint on the floor and walls. They also stole a radio and an electric heater. Conservation wardens and the sheriff's department are working together on the investigation." (Eau Claire Leader)
