May 23, 1955: "Another cougar, also called mountain lion, has been sighted in Missouri, this time in Washington county, and for the first time by an agent of the Conservation Commission.
Les Brown, conservation agent for Washington county, spotted the tawny cat at a distance of about 50 feet while on routine patrol on remote Floyd Fire Tower road, northeast of here, a week ago. Visibility was excellent, Brown said, and he had no doubt at to identification." (The Constitution-Tribune)
