MISC. NOTES: MINNESOTA LOOKOUTS
November 1926: "Lookout towers having outside ladders are being treated by the Minnesota Forest Service as follows: a U-shaped steel bow with a clamp at each end is fastened to each of the horizontal girts behind the ladder and upon these bows strips of woven wire are fastened so that the ladder is climbed within an inclosure. This takes away any nervous fear of falling backward and makes the towers usable for many who otherwise could not climb them. Even for experienced climbers the device has value on cold stormy days when the ladders are slippery and fingers are stiff." (Forest Worker)
March 1929: "Minnesota purchased 32 new lookout towers in 1928. Three construction crews were employed throughout the fall in erecting towers." (Forest Worker)
