Wisconsin - Wood County - Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Company
September 19, 1928: "The company has just completed the order for construction of a fire tower on their new forest lands in the southern half of Ashland and the northern part of Sawyer counties. Permanent headquarters have been set up at a point near Bear lake on the Chippewa river. Sixteen miles of telephone lines are being constructed through the proposed forest lands of the company. Forestry will be conducted there on a large scale next year, according to Mr. Klip." (Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune)
November 30, 1970: "Wood County police on routine patrol early Sunday morning reported that a 60-foot fire lookout tower located on a hill near the Wood-Adams County line had apparently been blown down.
The tower, owned by Nekoosa-Edwards Paper Co., was used mainly as an auxiliary tower for the past several years, and had not been manned on a regular basis.
Police are investigating the possibility that someone may have removed some support bolts at the base of the tower." (The Daily Tribune)
