Carter County Big Spring State Park Missouri Department of Conservation 26N-1E-7
March 15, 1934: "A visit to Big Spring Park is a worth while trip these days. There is much activity throughout the park in the way of road building, making of fire lanes or breaks, clearing of brush, and the initial steps toward the building of a fire tower. Anyone familiar with the park before the CCC camps were established will appreciate the improvements made." (The Current Local)
September 2, 1943: "Jack Herrington has resigned his job as mechanic at the McClintock Garage and accepted the position as towerman at Big Spring State park, taking the place of Jim Rose who resigned recently and moved with his family to St. Louis." (The Current Local)
1947-1948: The 'Official Manual of the State of Missouri' indicates that the towersite is owned by the Missouri Conservation Commission and is located in the Big Spring State Park.
