CROOKED
Missouri Lookouts - Crawford County - Clark National Forest - 35N-3W-29
May 27, 1937: "Future work of the resettlement division will deal more and more with the forestry needs. The Crooked tower has just been completed. It is about a mile north of the county line and some 5 1-2 miles north and west of Howes Mill, and is a part of the primary lookout system. Approval has been received for the building of two 80-foot secondary towers, one at the junction of Highway 32 and 72 and the other 2 1-2 miles southwest of Howes Mill. These secondary towers are manned during the five or six months that are included in the fire season and at times when visibility is too low for lookouts to efficiently cover the entire forest area.
Approved projects that are to be started soon by resettlement workers are the construction of a 3-room dwelling, a one-car garage and a cistern at the Crooked lookout tower." (The Salem Post and The Democrat-Bulletin)
