June 25, 1936: "First steps in the development will be taken at Hercules lookout tower, where a hydraulic ram has been received to be installed for use in pumping water from a spring to a picnic ground where accommodations for or five separate groups will be set up.
Hercules tower, at the southern end of the recreational drive is in a proposed 6,000-acre game refuge the forest service hopes to establish in the near future." (The Douglas County Herald)
September 3, 1936: "Recreation facilities are being completed this week at Hercules tower in the Pondfork forest unit in Taney county and the Forest Service will sponsor its first picnic there Monday, Labor Day.
A hydraulic ram has been installed at the tower to raise water to the picnic ground from a spring below it. There will be eight tables and other accommodations for picnics." (The Douglas County Herald)

THE TOWER IS IN SECTION 12, T 23 N, R 18 W, IN THE MARK TWAIN
NATIONAL FOREST, ABOUT 6.75 MILES SOUTH AND 1.75 MILES EAST
OF BRADLEYVILLE, 5.25 MILES NORTH AND 1.1 MILE WEST OF THE
JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS 125 AND 80 AT THE RUETER POST OFFICE.
THE TOWER IS A 4-LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE SUPPORTING A 6-FOOT
SQUARE STEEL AND GLASS HOUSE. IT IS 100 FEET HIGH. THE POINT
OBSERVED ON WAS THE CENTER OF THE BASE.
