November 22, 1939: "The Rockwoods Reservation will be developed by the Commission with the cooperation of the NYA. This tract will be developed as a wildlife sanctuary providing special nature study facilities, and as a timber management area. A fire tower will be erected within the area and nature trails laid out. Picnic facilities will be provided, but no development by erection of park type structures is contemplated." 1941: A 68-foot steel tower construction started on a 10 acre towersite. (Missouri Conservation Commission Annual Report 1939-41)
January 2, 1942: "Construction of a new forest fire tower at Rockwoods Reservation in St. Louis County has been completed, it was announced here by the Missouri Conservation Commission.
The tower, a 68-foot, steel structure, is the 16th now in operation by the Commission's forestry section. It will serve the Rockwoods area and several thousand acres of forest land surrounding it. Paul Brooks is towerman." (Rolla Herald)

1945-1946: The 'Official Manual of the State of Missouri' indicates that the Missouri Conservation Commission has a 50-year lease on the 10 acre towersite.
FY1958-59: "A standard four-room dwelling was constructed at Rockwoods." (Missouri Conservation Commission Annual Report FY 1958-59)
June 14, 1962: "The Conservation Commission reports vandalism at its Rock Woods Tower between between Pacific and Eureka June 11th.
Windows were broken, signs torn down, radios hurled out of windows, telephone wires cut, and the fire finder destroyed. It will take several days to repair the damage done in a few minutes.
No clue has been found as to the identity of the vandals, or the reason for the destruction.
The Conservation Commission urges anyone seeing acts of vandalism, or knowing of anyone involved in vandalism, to report to the police or state patrol at once." (Sullivan Tri-County News)

FY1969-70: "At Rockwoods towersite, the residence received a humidifier, overhead doors were hung at the garage and a heater installed in the tower." (Annual Report of the Missouri Department of Conservation)
FY1971-72: "The Rockwoods tower residence received a new well house, pump and pressure tank and water line." (Annual Report of the Missouri Department of Conservation)
FY1973-74: "The Rockwoods tower residence received a new heating system, the bathroom was relocated, the utility room was enlarged and two rooms were added." (Missouri Department of Conservation Annual Report)
