1935: An 86-foot steel tower erected.
June 14, 1945: "Mrs. Ada Noeldner of Bruno one of ten women hired for tower jobs this season because of the manpower shortage, took the job to await the return of her husband Harold with the Ninth Army in Germany. The Nickerson tower is located on the highest point of land between the Twin Cities and Duluth and it is there that Mrs. Noeldner spends eight hours a day watching for suspicious smudges on the distant landscape which may mean another forest fire has started."
