LOUISIANA LOOKOUTS
PLAIN DEALING
Bossier Parish
October 4, 1974: "Mrs. Margaret Little mans the Plain Dealing tower and sends husband Lewis out to fight fires that she spots." (The Times)
October 3, 1984: "Although the Plain Dealing Fire Tower has no personnel due to resignations and retirements, the tower is not officially closed, according to W. D. Mercer, associate state forester.
Mercer also stated, 'At such time as we are able to hire/transfer personnel, this facility will once again be active.'
Future plans for fire detection include replacing full-time fire tower surveillance with increased aerial detection; a plan which has been successful in other states with similar fire activities." (Plain Dealing Progress)
