November 10, 1960: "The fire tower which is being built here on Latch Mountain on Joe Schuler's place is near completion and will be in service soon." (The Gilmer Mirror)
November 24, 1960: "A forest fire lookout tower has been erected on Chamberlain Mountain in the Latch area in southwest Upshur County.
Located on O.V. Schuler land, the tower is primarily to be used to help another tower at Pine Mills pin-point fire sites in Wood County.
A large area of Wood County adjoining Upshur County is in a newly formed fire protection district. An oil company and paper company helped start the fire district with contributed funds." (The Gilmer Mirror)
December 1, 1966: "Max Blackstone has been appointed to the position of Crew Leader of the Latch fire lookout tower. He replaces Jerry Barton who resigned recently. Mr. Blackstone has been working with the Texas Forestry Service for the past 18 months as a crewman." (The Gilmer Mirror)
